Structural Rebar Mapping

The ability to passively investigate reinforced concrete prior to any construction works has become a hugely beneficial option, eliminating risk to both compromising structural integrity of the reinforcement and potential fatalities. The risks involved with drilling or coring into post tension tendons is high, which not only can affect the structure but the snapping of a tendon has the potential to cause serious injuries. It is therefore imperative to accurately locate these before drilling into any reinforced concrete.

With a structural rebar survey, all areas of interest will be scanned in an orthogonal grid locating any reinforcement present, specifically rebar layers and post-tension tendons. GPR is very effective at confirming intervals between bar spacing, orientation and depth over potentially multiple rebar layers from the concrete surface. Our technical surveyors can draw all targets out on-site with expected depths, while saved data can be processed and analysed at a later stage to produce a detailed 2D CAD drawing.

Benefits:

  • Construction works can proceed with knowing exactly where reinforcement is avoiding the potential for injury or structural integrity failure.
  • Structural Engineers and Architects can plan a project around the location of reinforcement.
  • Post-tension tendons can be safely avoided when conducting invasive works in the vicinity.
  • Fewer resources are involved by eliminating the potential of remediation works for a severed post-tension tendon.
